Лаборатория занимается изучением механизма работы разобщителей окислительного фосфорилирования митохондрий и проницаемости гидрофобных ионов через липидные мембраны. Ведется поиск и изучение новых мягких разобщителей окислительного фосфорилирования как кандидатов для разработки лекарственных препаратов, эффективных в лечении болезней, связанных с окислительным стрессом.
Основные научные достижения и результаты
Обнаружено, что бутиловый эфир родамина 19 обладает протонофорной активностью в модельной мембранной системе и оказывает эффективное разобщающее действие на митохондрии. Именно эти свойства, по-видимому, определяют выявленную нейропротекторную активность данного соединения.
Найдены производные флуоресцеина, обладающие протонофорным и разобщающим действием на мембранах митохондрий. Коньюгат флуоресцеина с трифенилфосфонием оказался митохондриально-направленным разобщителем.
Найдено производное природного пептида грамицидина А, которое обладает разобщающим действием подобно самому грамицидину, однако не проявляет токсического действия на клетки животных. Это производное ([Glu1]gA) оказывает нейропротекторное действие в модели экспериментального инсульта у крыс.

• Изучение протонофорных свойств антибиотика пирроломицина (совместно с Ruben Hartkoorn, CNRS, INSERM, CHU Lille, Institut Pasteur de Lille, Lille, France).
• Изучение взаимодействия динитрофенола с протон-проводящими белками митохондрий (Elena Pohl, Institute of Physiology, Pathophysiology and Biophysics, University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, Austria). Функциональная активность новых ретиналь-содержащих белков (Valentin Gordeliy, Institut de Biologie Structurale, Université Grenoble Alpes-CEA-CNRS, Grenoble, France).
• Изучение протекторного действия дейтерий-содержащих полиненасыщенных жирных кислот (Mikhail Shchepinov, Retrotope, Inc., Los Altos, CA, USA).
